Motor with gear

hello,

I read in the forum about gears.I have a question: I want to buy a motor with 0,2Nm, 2000rmp. If i build a homemade gear of 8:1 the torque of the motor will increase to 1,6Nm. Is that right?

i used this formule 0,2Nm x 8 = 1,6Nm Is this right?

Hello Jens,

Not the torque of the motor will increase, but the torque that you get at the output of your gearbox.
But I think that is what you meant: a gear box is basically a torque converter, and your calculation is correct. The torque will increase to 0.2 x 8 = 1.6 Nm, but you will also get a lower speed of 2000/8 = 250 rpm.
